French ‘yellow pages’ posts gay Internet ad before the regional elections
Less than one week before the regional elections, the French telephone directory 118 000 (think '411' from landline phones in America) released a new Internet advertisement , and the message couldn't be any clearer! See the 6-part ad below.
It plays on the possibility of the Socialists dominating in all 26 regions of the upcoming elections, denoted by three maps of France with each map showing a higher percentage of its surface in the color pink, until the last map and all subsequent images are 100% pink. The ad uses the Socialist emblem as a play on words with a gay thematic. In French, 'la vie en rose' (see 5th slide of the ad) means the good life, or literally 'life in pink', but the term also means 'coming-out' and being yourself for French gays.
The official color of the Socialist party is red, but since the word for the flower 'rose' (same word in English) is the same for the color 'pink', it is a lighthearted way of saying France is becoming 'gayer' also. Clever!

As you see above, the ad is strikingly gay and pro-Socialist. It will be interesting to see if the telephone service is planning any other ads with this concept, for any other political parties or other themes in society, or if it is just voicing its opinion this one time...
